There are two weeks to go before Huawei officially announces the Huawei P20, P20 Pro, and the P20 Lite. The P20 and the P20 Pro are high-end flagship phones, while the P20 Lite will be a mid-range option with the Kirin 659 system-on-chip. We already know quite a lot about these phones thanks to our exclusive reports, live photos, and renders. In fact, even the firmware of the P20 Pro has been leaked, confirming the fact that it will launch with Android 8.1 Oreo.
Now, Roland Quandt from WinFuture has leaked more details about the phones, including official high-resolution marketing renders and leaked specifications. All Huawei P20 series phones will come with the display notch, which will house high-resolution 16MP or 24MP front cameras, the earpiece, and the proximity and brightness sensors. WinFuture states that Huawei has waived existing manuals on infrared or laser sensors, which means that it's unlikely they will be housed within the notch. This implies that face unlock will rely exclusively on the front camera.
Thanks to entries in the HTML5Test benchmark for the Huawei P20 Pro (codename: "Charlotte" – CLT_Lxx), it is safe to assume that the P20 and the P20 Pro will come with 19:9 displays and Full HD+ resolution (2240×1080). The unusual aspect ratio and resolution are because of the presence of the notch. Previously, we exclusively reported that the P20 will have a 6-inch LCD, while the P20 Pro may have an OLED display, thanks to the fact that it has an Always on Display feature.
The Huawei P20 and the P20 Pro will both be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 system-on-chip, which is the same chip that powers the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, as well as the Honor View 10. However, the internal storage capacity of both phones isn't known yet.
WinFuture states that it could only rely on previous reports regarding the camera specifications of the P20 series. Evan Blass has previously reported that at least the P20 Pro will probably come with a maximum camera resolution of 40MP, and it's confirmed that the phone will have a triple rear camera setup. Of these three cameras, WinFuture speculates that one camera is a monochrome sensor.
The P20 Pro's cameras will have a f/1.6 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The P20, on the other hand, has a f/1.6 aperture for its camera and it will have a fixed focal length of 27mm (35mm equivalent). More interestingly, the P20 Pro also has a second value for its focal length: 80mm. This seems to be a telephoto lens with almost three times magnification. This implies that the P20 Pro may have a primary RGB rear camera, a monochrome sensor, and also another camera with a near 3x telephoto lens.
WinFuture found a manual from the Huawei P20 which states the main rear cameras have laser autofocus. In addition to the LED flash, the phones also have an infrared-based color temperature sensor. It's worth noting that the LG G4 and G5 also had color temperature sensors.
The leaked manual also confirms that the P20 and the P20 will both lack the microSD card slot, as only two nano-SIM card slots are mentioned in the manual. The P20 Lite, on the other hand, will keep the microSD slot.
WinFuture states that according to the manual, the Huawei P20 will have a 3400mAh battery, while the P20 Pro will have a bigger 4000mAh battery. The P20 Lite will probably be sold for €369, while the P20 and the P20 Pro will cost €679 and €899 respectively.
