[Help] My brother gave me his phone, I spent hours trying to fix it, am lost

Hello,

My brother handed me his Moto 3G and asked me to fix it. For reference, I'm an IPhone user and don't have much experience with androids. I do, however, know how to use google. I tried following some fast boot tutorials but can't seem to get this thing to work. My main goal is to simply reset the phone back to its factory settings.

The bootloader main screen reads (I tried to include only the details that are important)

Code:

Product/Variant: osprey XT1540 8GB P2B
DRAM: 1024MB Hynix S8 SDRAM DIE = 8gb
Console [NULL]: null
Device is locked. Status Code: 0
Software status: official

Now, for the details: The phone only opens to the boot loader screen. When I click start, I get the message:

"Start Up failed...Use the Software Repair Assistant to repair.."

The boot loader logs read:

Code:

AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)
Fastboot Reason: Volume down key pressed
hab check failed for boot
Failed to verify had image boot
failed to validate boot image
ERROR: Failed to pass validation, backup to fast boot
Boot up failed

When I go into recovery mode, a dead droid screen appears with the reading "no command." At this point, I click the "increase volume button" and power button at the same time to open the next menu. On this menu, I have done a factory reset multiple times, but it has not fixed the issue.

What can I do to reset the phone to its factory settings and content?

Thank You!
