After the latest update (June 2016) with the screen off my phone doesn't receive SMS - and those that "aren't received" dont ever appear.
I've done loads of testing with Messenger and Textra and different senders, and with my service provider.
Solution:
Disable the background task clear in Settings - Background task clear (slidey switch to turn off)
